Elena, Kazakstan: “These were fascinating, unforgettable 10 days”

I nearly burst into tears when I understood it was the 10th and last day of our amazing School of Analytic Journalism of CABAR.asia.

Kyrgyzstan is my love … Love at first sight, and I am sure to the last gasp. It’s reciprocal and unconditional love.

I nearly burst into tears when I understood it was the 10th and last day of our amazing School of Analytic Journalism of CABAR.asia. These were fascinating, unforgettable 10 days.

The organisers tried to create a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Every step was well thought out. I was sure that I would be in good hands when I was preparing for the training. They contacted me politely and chose the maximum comfortable travelling option. Compared to other participants from Kazakstan, I live farther, in Petropavlovsk, which is almost the northernmost point of country. And it was very comfortable to get here on two planes.

I was met and taken to a lovely hotel in the centre of Bishkek. It’s very telling. I didn’t hear any rude word or see any inappropriate response either from organisers or their assistants.

[su_quote]All participants of the School of Analytic Journalism of CABAR.asia became good friends during training. It’s great when many different people from Central Asia gather in one place and learn new things about each other by comparing and finding common topics for conversation.[/su_quote]

I’d like to give very special thanks to our trainers – Vladimir Tkhorik, an investigative journalist from RISE Moldova, Saviya Khasanova and Altynai – data visualisers, and to all of our helper-outers, who helped us day and night. I was impressed by the skill level of all our trainers.

We worked a lot with Vladimir Tkhorik and I want to thank him a lot. He is a wonderful person and a real professional, who is a genuine investigative journalist.  Despite the threats on his life, he easily investigated serious crimes that changed the situation in his home country, Moldova. I want to be like him. And I will do my best to achieve my goal.

Thank you, my dears. I will never forget this experience. Love you…
