IWPR in Central Asia requires an experienced coordinator of study guides on new media and digital journalism for universities in Central Asia.
The Institute for War and Peace Reporting (IWPR) is an independent international non-governmental organization that works with the media and civil society to promote positive change in conflict zones, closed communities, and transit countries around the world.
The Central Asian Bureau for Analytical Reporting (CABAR.asia) is an analytical platform for local politicians, experts, academics and other key groups to exchange ideas and recommendations on resolving local and regional problems.
CABAR.asia Media School provides online and offline training for journalists and anyone interested in analytics, reporting journalism, new media, and digital journalism tools.
Location: Kyrgyzstan
Getting Started: January 2020
Duration: three months, with a possible extension of the contract.
Status: Consultant. The option of remote work is possible.
Salary: determined depending on the skills and experience of the candidate.
Brief description of the position: Coordination of the process of developing training programs on new media for journalism departments, including the development of technical requirements for training programs and ensuring their compliance with the standards of departmental institutions in three countries (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan), as well as the search and involvement of consultants (authors-developers, translators, proofreaders) for the development of each module, and their finalization.
Brief terms of reference
- Search for authors with experience to prepare study guides for teaching in higher educational institutions of Central Asian countries and in specialized courses on new media.
- Conducting an analysis of training materials available for IWPR CA for subsequent adaptation.
- Close cooperation with local and international experts and the IWPR CA team to ensure the quality of the study guides produced in terms of the effectiveness of information presentation, accuracy, and reliability.
- Development of final publications of study guides after coordination with the editorial board of IWPR CA.
- Maintaining liaison with state authorities of the countries of the region that regulate the publication of academic literature.
- Providing information for internal and external reporting, whenever required.
- Promotion of the created study guide among the audience and partner state and non-governmental organizations in the Central Asian region and internationally.
Candidate specification:
- Higher education in the field of journalism, philology, or other related disciplines.
- Practical experience in developing study guides.
- Excellent skills in writing and editing text in Russian language.
- Experience in teaching journalism at a university or at specialized courses.
- Experience as an editor, full understanding of the specifics of content production in new media formats.
- Understanding the pressing issues of journalism in the Central Asian region.
- The ability to analyze and marshal information.
- Organizational skills, as well as team and independent work skills.
