What is CABAR.asia Media School?

CABAR.asia Media School is the educational platform of the IWPR Central Asia media organization for those who want to develop in the field of media, communications and expert analytics.

For 20 years, IWPR’s representative office in Central Asia has increased the potential of local media, independent journalists and civil society institutions through various educational programs in the countries of the region.

This resource now provides access to accumulated experience and materials for all comers.

Video lessons and tutorials

The website of CABAR.asia Media School has a number of video lessons and methodological articles, which allows you to supplement your knowledge of various aspects in journalism, communications, analytics and new media. These materials are presented both in Russian and in the official languages ​​of the four countries of the region. For better acquirement of the material, there are additional tasks at the end of most lessons, and in some of them have a verification test to pass.

The authors of these materials are recognized experts and professionals in their field both from Central Asian countries and Eastern Europe. You can familiarize yourself with these materials in «Video Lessons» section.

Online courses

In addition to studying materials in a free order, users of the educational platform have the opportunity to take various online courses. They are built on the principle of online learning, where materials for study are given in stages; passed material is checked through tests, homework is also given for completion. Based on the results of a full cycle of online courses, the IWPR Central Asia Representative Office issues an official registered certificate confirming the completion of our online course.

Announcements of trainings and master classes

The IWPR Central Asia Office continues to conduct its traditional trainings for media workers, teachers, students of journalism departments, as well as for representatives of civil society and government agencies. They are regularly held in various cities of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

In addition to trainings at the CABAR.asia Media School, one-day master classes are also held where professionals from the region and abroad share their experience on a particular topic.

Electronic library

Electronic versions of all manuals and practical manuals that IWPR has issued over the past 20 years are uploaded in the “Textbooks” section. Among them are “Reporting for Change: A Guide for Local Journalists in Crisis Regions,” which will help reporters work according to international journalism standards, or “A History-Based Study: A Guide for Journalists on Conducting Journalistic Investigations” —a reference book for those who are engaged in journalistic investigations.

The educational platform “CABAR.asia Media School” was launched at the end of 2018 by the IWPR Representative Office in Central Asia. IWPR is an international non-profit media organization supporting the development of local media, independent journalists and freedom of speech. IWPR programs operate in 30 countries, including the republics of Eastern Europe, the Middle East, the Caucasus, Africa, Central America and Southeast Asia. In Central Asia, IWPR has been operating since 1999.
